Manage PRINCE2 projects

Projects are gaining importance within organisations day by day. Working in a standardised way offers clear advantages. Many leading organisations choose the best practice method PRINCE2 to support the further professionalisation of their project organisation. However, the practical management of PRINCE2 projects is not always easy.

Some of the 'bottlenecks' preventing a successful implementation:
• Too much paperwork and administrative overhead
• No uniformity in PRINCE2 reports and templates
• No portfolio overview for management
• Insufficient integration with existing processes or
software systems

The Principal Toolbox supports the management of PRINCE2 projects:
• Practical PRINCE2 support in projects
• Electronic logs, document manager, report wizards
• Customisable PRINCE2 project models
• Intuitive software, self-explanatory
• Easy to implement (intranet/internet)
• Real-time portfolio and programme overview, using ‘traffic lights’

Challenge: The Dutch Ministry of Defence had a need to further professionalise its project management and selected the PRINCE2 methodology in 2004. Objectives for the ministry were: improve service levels and achieve optimum control in projects regarding time and budget.

In the second quarter of 2004, the Ministry of Defence selected the Principal Toolbox, initially to support a number of strategic programmes and projects. On the basis of these experiences, the Toolbox is now being implemented in other parts of the organisation and use is supported by the Ministry's own PRINCE2/Principal Toolbox centre of expertise.
