Implementation Principal Toolbox at New Breed USA

Promista and Fortes have been asked by New Breed to further professionalise project management with support of the Principal Toolbox.

New Breed is a third-party logistics company that helps other companies to develop efficient supply chains. New Breed manages millions of square meters of warehouse space in more than 50 distribution centers in the U.S. and has over 7,000 employees. New Breed has an annual program of several hundred projects ranging with the duration from a few weeks (release management) to 1 ½ years.

New Breed also ran against problems regarding time and money, caused by a poor business case, a non-transparent resource planning, inefficient communication and coordination within the projects.

New Breed decided to adopt as PRINCE2 project management methodology. "With a methodical approach such as PRINCE2, projects can be managed better, so the chance of a successful project is much bigger," a program manager of New Breed said.

After selecting a methodology, there was a need for tooling to support the methodology. After an extensive selection, New Breed selected the Principal Toolbox. The main reason was the direct applicability of the PRINCE2 methodology and intuitive way the Principal Toolbox can be used.

The main objectives were:
1. Overview over all ongoing projects.
2. To be able to generate clear and up-to-date reports.
3. Overview over the availability and use of all the resources.
4. Increasing the communication with and involvement of the customer.

With this New Breed aims to get a better grip on projects, enabling projects to be managed more effectively and efficiently.
