PRINCE2: a step in the right direction

Healthcare in the years ahead will increasingly depend on excellent IT. Just think about EPD, patient portals and other systems to exchange data between different healthcare providers. The data needs to be accessible at any time and any place.

Manitoba eHealth
In the Canadian province of Manitoba, the harnessing of information and communication technology for healthcare delivery is managed by Manitoba eHealth. With 11 regional health authorities, 75 hospitals and almost 50,000 staff there was an abundance of independently functioning systems. This had to change in 2008, so Manitoba eHealth was established.

The most important challenges were:
- more centralized management for the initiatives and projects.
- More grip on the execution of projects and programmes.

To be able to manage the great number of projects within the IT project portfolio, Manitoba eHealth decided to deploy PPM tooling and introduce a new project management approach. They eventually preferred the PRINCE2 methodology, instead of the, in North-Amerika more common, methodolgy based on PMBoK of PMI.

To support the new portfolio and project processes they also implemented the Principal Toolbox. Despite these major changes, people are very positive about PRINCE2 and the Principal Toolbox. Do you want to read more on the PRINCE2 implementation at Manitoba Ehealth? Click here.
